There is some irony in celebrating peace on Earth with a gajillion lights on the front lawn. Everyone is so energy-conscious and carbon footprint-aware these days that it seems like we're not supposed to do anything. I say "Bah, humbug" to all that. If the earth is damaged, we won't fix it in our lifetime, so live it up and don't let it hinder the festive lighting during Christmas. Like cocoa, chestnuts and snow, holiday lights evoke the Christmas spirit in a way that reduces us to an innocence and awe of the season. Since we can barely have a white Christmas here, at least we can have a bright one. Grapevine comes to the rescue with their Christmas Light Show Spectacular, a 25-minute flickering bulb extravaganza that runs evenings through January 3 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the gazebo landmark in Historic Downtown Grapevine.
