I seem to remember a time when the Galleria ice rink played host to Kristi Yamaguchi and a cavalcade of other ice-skating celebs, but it appears the mall has a hard time attracting such star power in these cash-strapped times. No offense to 2007 U.S. Silver Medalist Ryan Bradley, but he's no Scott Hamilton or Brian Boitano. I'm sure he'll play a fine second fiddle to the giant pine tree and Missile Toes, the skating Santa, during the Galleria's Grand Tree Lighting Show, however. A three-time U.S. Collegiate champion, Bradley has performed routines to the requisite movie score (The Godfather in his case), but also to more lively fare such as Pink Floyd's "Money," "Dueling Banjos" and "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." How do I know this? Because someone cares enough about ice skating to catalog the individual competition routines of athletes on Wikipedia. This person may or may not also have a Dorothy Hamill haircut and numerous cats with names like Nancy, Tonya, Katerina, Salchow and Dick Button...but I digress. When he takes the ice 5 p.m. Saturday at the mall, Bradley will be joined by the aforementioned Missile Toes, who shoots fireworks from his skates, as well as 75 youngsters from the Galleria Dallas Ice Skating Center performing to a medley of holiday favorites.
