Kubrick's Voyage

The Inwood launches 2001: A Space Odyssey

The idea of watching two and a half hours of sci-fi made in 1968 to depict the year 2001 using minimal dialogue and no explosions may not sound all that awesome at first, but if you can make it through the apes and cryogenic hibernation pods you get rewarded with a freaky trip on the Jupiter-bound spaceship Discovery One with HAL. Kind of like the sexy, homicidal Pierce Brosnan house that tries to seduce Marge on The Simpsons, HAL is the ship's on-board computer and is convinced that failure "can only be attributable to human error." Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey was shot in 70mm and thus must be seen on the big screen. Midnight screenings are this Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane.
