Jump On In, the Water's Fine

Once Christmas is over, winter seems to lose color. When the reds and greens fade to grays and browns it's nice to find an outlet for escape like The Pool, a vividly colorful and visually stunning little film about a young hotel employee in Panjim, Goa who becomes fascinated by a neighboring swimming pool. He offers to work for the tenants of the home in hopes of getting a closer look but what he finds changes everything. It took home the Special Jury Prize at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, and director Chris Smith has received critical acclaim for flawlessly illustrating the local color of his subject's India. Filmed in Hindi with English subtitles, The Pool has had a limited release but will screen Friday through Sunday as part of Magnolia at the Modern (3200 Darnell St. in Fort Worth), an ongoing series featuring critically acclaimed films.
