Botti Blows

The star trumpeter plays Fort Worth

Honestly, the only thing I really know about Chris Botti is that he looks a whole lot like Robert Downey, Jr.'s character from Tropic Thunder (pre-surgery). See, if I read the words "smooth jazz" in a musician's bio, visions of Kenny G playing over a war-torn, post apocalyptic wasteland fill my mind...he just might be the Antichrist, after all. If you can't get enough of the smooth stuff, however, you've no doubt heard of Botti and would find the list of musicians he's worked with--which includes Michael Buble, Sting and John Mayer--quite impressive. You're also most likely a middle-aged white man with a ponytail or a superfan of The Young and the Restless, on which Botti appeared in 2005 (long after Victor Newman's heyday, at least in our opinion). Lucky you: Chris Botti brings his trumpet to Bass Performance Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth, at 8 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $35 to $125. Visit basshall.com.
Sun., Jan. 25, 8 p.m., 2009
