Don't Take Your Love to Town

Get your asses to Bass Hall for Kenny Rogers

Houston has produced a number of talented musicians: ZZ Top, DJ Screw, Destiny's Child, The Geto Boys...the list goes on. H-Town's most enduring musical export, however, is "The Gambler." That's right, I'm talking about Kenny Rogers. His career has spanned several decades, swerving from country to pop and back again, making all stops in between. A man of many talents, Kenny has branched out into the role of restaurateur (Kenny Rogers Roasters) and, more important, has proven himself an amazing actor. The Gambler series injected new life into TV movies, and anyone who has ever seen 1982's amazingly poignant Six Pack will tell you that Kenny's acting chops are just as tasty as his musical ones. And don't even get me started on the Coward of the County movie, or I may start to weep. This week the talented Mr. Rogers is putting another notch in his awesome-belt, and it's happening in Fort Worth. Lucky! Kenny will perform his greatest hits with lush backing from the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. It sounds like a dream come true. As the man said, "Somewhere in the darkness, the Gambler he broke even..." And the ace that you can keep is Kenny Rogers with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, performing 8 p.m. Saturday at Bass Performance Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth. Tickets are $29 to $80. Visit fwsymphony.org for more info.
