Slick Oil Story

Bryan Burrough doubles up on Texas tea

If you've ever seen the movie Giant then you've already got a handle about how things go in Bryan Burrough's new book The Big Rich: The Rise and Fall of the Greatest Texas Oil Fortunes. That movie was fiction (and James Dean's last film) but all the stories that the Vanity Fair correspondent is telling about bankruptcies, scandals and that Texas tea known as oil are true. If you want to meet the man behind the research he'll be in town Monday, so head to Morton's The Steakhouse (501 Elm St., 214-741-2277) at 5 p.m. (if you're feeling a bit hungry) or Legacy Books (7300 Dallas Parkway, 972-398-9888) at 7:30 p.m. to hear about "the big Four"--the families that used to control Texas oil--and get a copy of the book signed. Both events are free.
Mon., Feb. 2, 5 p.m., 2009
