As metalheads and indie rock kids alike can no doubt attest, a show's opening act can make or break the whole affair. That first performer sets the mood and gets the fans pumped for what's to come, and if they don't mesh with the headliner, it can make for a very bad concert. But, sometimes, bringing together seemingly opposite acts actually works rather well, as in the case of a 1994 Grateful Dead show in Oakland, where the opening act was a Chinese dance company. This sounds like a rather strange match at first, but the Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company is known for their elaborate costumes and multi-media shows, and it's not hard to imagine a group of Deadheads entranced by fluid dance movements and swirling computer graphics. LCCDC will be lacin' up their dancin' shoes right here in North Texas this weekend as they perform Dynasties and Beyond 8 p.m. Saturday at the Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson. The program features an eclectic mix of ancient court dances of Chinese dynasties and contemporary works that fuse classical Chinese movement with ballet and modern dance, all set to original music. Tickets are $27 to $55. Call 972-744-4650 or visit eisemanncenter.com.
