Tutu Dudes

See the man-erinas of Les Ballets Trockadero

A night of tutus and pirouetting ballerinas may sound like the last way you'd want to spend your weekend. But those who think ballet is a drag don't know what they're missing. For Les Ballets Trockadero, drag is the main attraction. You won't see the Trocks lip-syncing for dollar bills in even Dallas' finest gay nightclubs. These queens have CLASS. Your best bet for the McFarlin Auditorium performance is to bring a bouquet and save your cash for a front-row seat. Who knows? You might get a glimpse of what lies beneath those whitey-tighties: hairy legs, of course. An all-male ballet company may seem like a radical sign of the times, but it's actually--I dare say--quite traditional. Elizabethan gender-bending was taken seriously, even if the light through yonder window illuminated Juliet's Adam's apple to the apple of her eye. In Elizabethan tradition, the Trocks in frocks have entertained dignitaries including Prince Charles and Camilla. And in drag tradition, the prima divas have glam stage names, such as "Katerina Bitchkova." Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $14 to $59. Visit trockadero.org for more info.
Fri., Feb. 6, 8 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 7, 8 p.m., 2009
