Screen Trip

WAC and HBO premiere Taking Chance

Every time a fallen soldier is transported home, another soldier makes the journey as well. A soldier who has volunteered for escort duty meets faces of fellow passengers, renders honors to the deceased whenever they change planes, cars, trains or what have you, and delivers a son or daughter to their final resting place. It's an amazing act of kinship, depicted in HBO's Taking Chance, starring Kevin Bacon as Lieutenant Colonel Michael R. Strobl, USMC. Based on Strobl's own story--and his screenplay--the film follows the soldiers' emotional journey to one's home. Even the trailer isn't easy to forget. The World Affairs Council and HBO present a special premiere of Taking Chance from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station. Following the screening Strobl and Colonel Mant Hawkins, USMC will discuss the film. The free screening is full, but WAC members and guests may call the council to be placed on the waiting list. The HBO television premiere airs at 8 p.m. February 21. Call 214-965-8400 or visit dfwworld.org.
Tue., Feb. 17, 6-10 p.m., 2009
