Tango masters perform at McFarlin

I'm not quite an expert on ballroom dance. My credentials are as follows: A) I've seen several episodes of Dancing With the Stars and B) a friend of a friend used to compete in ballroom dancing competitions 10 years ago. And yet, despite my lack of experience or research on the subject, I actually know a little bit about the tango, and I bet you do too. If nothing else, you've seen it repeatedly as the go-to romantic dance for movies or television these days, and anyone who's seen the tango scenes in True Lies knows why. (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, eat your heart out.) Of course, this by no means makes us bona fide tango experts. The only way to get to that level would be to get out there and dance. Or you could go for the next best thing and check out Forever Tango, the dance spectacular being performed 8 p.m. Friday at SMU's McFarlin Auditorium, 6400 Hillcrest Ave. Fourteen Argentine dancers and an 11-piece orchestra trace the rich history of the tango through music, dance and dramatic vignettes. Tickets are $14 to $59 and can be purchased by calling the TITAS box office at 214-528-5576 or online at titas.org.
