I like to think I'm savvy to international politics and foreign cultures--I'm a news junkie who's lived in several countries--or at least I can BS my way through most conversations, but I'll be damned if I know what to make of Iran. The place seems to have a functioning democracy (if ours is "functional," who am I to criticize?), meanwhile its president answers to a Supreme Leader and all new legislation must be compatible with Islamic law. It's a modern country with universities and a growing number of female students, yet authorities discourage kissing in public. If anyone can help clear the confusion, it's Iranian-American author and Tehran correspondent Azadeh Moaveni, who's coming to Cow Town in the wake of publishing her new book, Honeymoon in Tehran: Two Years of Love and Danger in Iran. She'll be speaking at the Fort Worth Public Library as part of the World Affairs Council's Fort Worth & the World Author Series.
