Flick Bits

The shorts are long on talent

By now you've seen Brad Pitt aging backward, the little Indian film that could and, of course, Kate's Oprah-approved rack. If you're really good you've even seen the two politically inspired films going head-to-head in the Best Picture category at this year's Academy Awards. But if you stopped there, you have no idea what you’re missing—and I'm not talking about the red carpet. Every year you doze off while brilliant filmmakers take home little gold men for telling a story in less than the time it takes to watch a sitcom. These short films are funny, heartbreaking, thought-provoking and can be watched five at a time because they’re over so quickly! Definitely worth a trip to the Modern. Besides, just think of the advantage you'll have at your Oscar party pool. Both the animated and the live-action shorts are screening in alternating blocks this Friday through Sunday as part of Magnolia at the Modern (3200 Darnell St. in Fort Worth), an ongoing series featuring critically acclaimed films. Tickets are $8.50 or $6.50 for Modern members. Advance sales begin two hours before each show. For more information, visit themodern.org/magnolia.html.
