Here Comes the Sun

The Arboretum welcomes spring with Dallas Blooms

We've dreamed of this all winter. When the weather is icy and the trees are bare, we return in our minds to Dallas Blooms at the Dallas Arboretum, an annual springtime event that is a fitting reward for making it through the last months of dreary. This year's celebration, Dallas Blooms--It's a Classic, is no exception, with 450,000 spring-blooming bulbs including tulips, daffodils and hyacinths blooming alongside more than 100,000 pansies, violas, poppies and thousands more spring annuals and perennials. And how cool would it be to live there? It would certainly smell nice. We can explore the fantasy with the Storybook Playhouse exhibit, 14 locally designed playhouses based on classic children's stories, which opens Saturday and stays in the garden through December 2009. Other highlights include the 25th Anniversary Cake Topiary--more than 13 feet high, stuffed with 735 cubic feet of sphagnum moss and adorned with dusty miller silver, dichondra and white petunias--and Artscape, a fine art exhibit and sale on the Arboretum Grounds from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 21 and 22. Dallas Blooms--It's a Classic runs Saturday through April 12 at the Dallas Arboretum, 8525 Garland Road. Tickets are $6 to $9.50. Call 214-515-6500 or visit dallasarboretum.org.
March 7-April 12, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 2009
