Comedian Eddie Izzard jokes that Europe's "where the history comes from," because in America we tear down anything more than 30 years old. I guess Europeans would also chuckle at our historic home tours; after all, they can tour Le Donjon du Faucon Noir, a castle built in the 990s. While our notable Dallas homes are spring chickens in comparison to extant medieval abodes, many of these houses are both architecturally appealing and historically fascinating. The Discovering Dallas' Historic Neighborhoods tour will visit Lakewood, Swiss Avenue, Oak Cliff, Uptown, Hollywood Heights and other areas to highlight the planning and design of these preserved neighborhoods. The five-hour tour begins 9 a.m. Saturday at the Hall of State in Fair Park, 3939 Grand Ave., and the ticket price ($40-$50) includes lunch at Dixie House.
