Ride 'Em, Cowgirl

The Women's Museum salutes the women of the West

Tall in the Saddle: Cowgirls, Ranch Women and Rodeo Gals collects black and white photographs by Ann Meredith that span 17 years and provide an intimate glimpse into the lives of women in the West. Countering stereotypes, the images prove that women contribute as much to the rodeo circuit and ranch responsibilities as men, as well as showing many females participating in events that not too long ago were not open to them. An opening reception kicks things off from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Women's Museum, 3800 Parry Ave. The exhibition runs through June 28, with special programs including a panel discussion on May 2 and an outdoor family festival featuring ropers and horse demonstrations on June 6. Call 214-915-0860 or visit thewomensmuseum.org for more information.
Thu., April 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Tuesdays-Saturdays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: April 9. Continues through June 29, 2009
