Fort Worth's best arts fest returns

2009 marks the 24th year of Fort Worth's art/food/music/film/good times fest, the Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival. Art Fair SourceBook recently called the annual event the No. 3 fine arts festival in the nation, and with one glance at this year's lineup, it's easy to see why. The festival takes place on downtown Fort Worth's Main Street, from the Tarrant County Courthouse to the Fort Worth Convention Center, Thursday through Sunday. It showcases the work of more than 200 artists and fine craft exhibitors, and this year, the festival is encouraging artists to use earth-friendly techniques, materials and themes in their work. The booths of those participating in this go-green effort will be marked with a green thumbprint seal. And while there's plenty to see at the festival, your ears won't be bored either: There'll be live music on three stages throughout the event, with acts like Del Castillo, Jimmie Vaughan and many more. Your taste buds will be satisfied as well, with plenty of snack choices, such as tamales, burritos, wraps, barbecue and burgers. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. For more information, visit mainstreetartsfest.org.
