Happy Birthday, Dear Promised Land

Celebrate Israel Independence Day in Dallas

The Hebrew calendar is a tricky thing. Historically speaking, the State of Israel declared its independence on May 14, 1948, but chances are you won't find people waving flags and shooting off fireworks next month. No, Israel Independence Day, or Yom Ha'atzmaut as it's known, is actually celebrated on the fifth day of Iyar, which falls on April 29 this year (the year being 2009 or 5769, depending on which calendar you choose). Regardless, it's a time of international celebration, and Dallas' party will be going down at the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center of Dallas (7900 Northaven Road) this Wednesday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Call 214-239-7110 or visit jccdallas.org.
Wed., April 29, 4:30-8 p.m., 2009
