Austinite Chad Hopper may be a respected collage and mixed-media artist, illustrator of the great World Salad comic series and Night Viking member. Most of his work involves the clever reworking of discarded kitsch into gag art and social commentary. But he also glorifies the hated squirrel, that deceptively cute rodent scourge, in a piece depicting a beady-eyed little squirrel holding a cabbage--as if a rodent deserves anything better than trash--and saying the word "Focus." Yeah, how about I focus on your skull through the scope of this pellet gun, vermin? Questionable subject matter aside, Chad Hopper's opening reception is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday for And/Or Show #23, on display Wednesdays through Saturdays through July at And/Or Gallery, 4221 Bryan St., Suite B. Call 214-824-2442 or visit andorgallery.com for hours or to set up an appointment.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: May 9. Continues through July 31, 2009
