Art Fight

Auctions have a strange power over people: The fight to win an item that people--in their minds--have already adopted as their own turns seemingly calm and polite individuals into crazy, competitive spenders. Look at furniture auctions, eBay, even charity benefits. A protective feeling suddenly overwhelms, and bidders will go far to keep a beloved piece from going to that person (who obviously doesn't understand just how special it is!). We. Must. Have. It. At least proceeds from sudden competitiveness at Saturday's Makeup & Mayhem Art Auction featuring the work of local artists will go to the Million Gay March of Texas. Plus, you can mentally elbow your bidding foe all you want, and then walk in solidarity come June 28. Makeup and Mayhem takes place 7 p.m. Saturday at Rorschach Gallery, 518 W. Davis St. For more info, or to donate art, visit myspace.com/pop_art_show.
