Comedy Isn't Pretty

More About

"The best comedy comes from the truth," X-rated comic Robert Schimmel has said--and proven, with hilarious observations mixed with compassion and insight when documenting his bout with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in his 2008 book, Cancer on $5 a Day* *(chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life. During his illness, he fell in love with a friend of his daughter but stuck with his wife--until he recovered, whereupon they divorced for the third and final time so he could marry the girlfriend. That marriage, however, ended last month after his arrest for domestic violence. Too soon for him to find the comedy in that ugly truth? Find out Thursday through Sunday at the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road. Tickets ($17 to $20) and showtimes are at 972-404-8501 or improv.com.
Thu., June 4; Fri., June 5; Sat., June 6; Sun., June 7, 2009
