Boys Vs. Girls

Artists Daniel Mirer and Raven Schlossberg have much to say about male stereotypes in their respective new exhibits, In the Finest Tradition and The Road South. Mirer's photographs place manly men in architecturally intriguing spaces, from a horn player in a marching band playing under a stone arch (OK, maybe only some of them are manly men) to cowboys and cops. Schlossberg, on the other hand, brings a female perspective on gender roles, creating collages that deal with issues like motherhood and adolescence as they mimic the form of hunter's trophy plaques. Her "Captains of Industry" series deals specifically with men in power, abstractly portraying "men of a certain importance, self-structured and beyond...type 'A' men who we imagine have gone on to build great things."
