Foul-Mouthed Hussy

Back in the '80s, if you were a member of a hair band (and don't act like that's terribly difficult to imagine, daydreamer of spandex fantasies) it's very possible that you'd have picked up the phone (after tossing off whatever lithe, coke-dusted groupie had fallen asleep strewn across the nightstand) and heard your perennially pissed-off but unfailingly polite British manager say, "Hello, [Your Hair Band Name Here], we have Lisa Lampanelli down here in the lobby, and she's ready to speak with you." But you wouldn't think, "Do you mean Lisa Lampanelli, the blond insult comic whose material centers around being as raunchy and obnoxious as possible in hopes of tackling taboos in modern culture?" No, instead you would think, "Aw, man, it's that lady from Rolling Stone who always talks to me like hair spray is the only thing standing between the outside world and my empty noggin!" Because indeed, Lampanelli used to be a full-on music journalist back in the day, before she became a Grammy-nominated stand-up comic. She's now touring with her new special, Long Live the Queen, and is coming through Dallas this Saturday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. Showtime is 7 p.m.; tickets are $39.75.
