Heavy on the Cheese

He's sold 175,000 CDs since 2000, people. This cat has swanked up sets for TV hosts from Jimmy Kimmel to silver fox Anderson Cooper. But you might want to go ahead and start weeping for the future because Richard Cheese is retiring from tourdom. Yes, the man who is responsible for lounge-ifying "Like a Virgin," "Personal Jesus," "Freak on a Leash," "Smack My Bitch Up" and "Bust a Move" is calling it quits from his time on the road with Lounge Against the Machine. But not before one last go-round celebrating the latest recorded foray in Cheese: Viva La Vodka. The live recording croons new life into 2 Live Crew's "Me So Horny," Radiohead's "Airbag," Buckcherry's "Crazy Bitch" and, of course, as the album name suggests, Coldplay's "Viva La Vida." Chances are you can hear them all when Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine paint House of Blues all leopard print and red velvet Wednesday at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $22.50 to $50, baby. Call 214-373-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com. Dry those eyes now, sugar daddies and luscious ladies, because ol' Dick Cheese may never play Dallas after this show, but he isn't about to stop recording those albums that (the opposite of ) gazillions of people purchase every other week.
