Train A-Comin'

If you've ever sat through all two hours and 40 minutes of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, then you no doubt remember the artfully shot train robbery scene--watching the doomed locomotive's headlamp shine through the spooky, leaf-barren forest was easily one of the film's most memorable moments. We're guessing the Great Train Robbery ride on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad isn't quite that dramatic, but then again, we haven't yet had the pleasure of being robbed by actors on horseback. For fans of Old West camp, it's sure to be an afternoon to remember, though we're pretty sure your fantasy of getting pistol whipped by Brad Pitt will still go unfulfilled. Round-trip trains to the Fort Worth Stockyards depart from 705 S. Main St. in Grapevine at 1 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday through Labor Day. Tickets are $20, $18 for seniors 55 and over and $10 for children three to 12. And if you want to see a baby's eyes light up when an angry bandit reaches for its father's pocket watch, infants to 2-year-olds are admitted for free. Call 817-410-8136 or visit grapevinetexasusa.com for more info.
Saturdays, Sundays, 1 p.m. Starts: Aug. 29. Continues through Sept. 7, 2009
