Cuckoo For Cogill

Winner of five Oscars, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is a classic 1975 film based on Ken Kesey's milestone novel of the same name. You and everyone else at the Free Films On First Thursdays screening will already be aware of the film's importance, so try not to rehash the same old points during the post-film discussion. Instead, mention these little-known facts: 1. In the original ending, McMurphy pops up to yell "Gotcha!" before leading Chief and the rest of the ward in a conga line as the credits roll. 2. Actors Danny DeVito and Jack Nicholson traded roles midway through filming, forcing the production to start over from scratch. 3. The film was shot on very thin horsehide rather than celluloid. Critic Gary Cogill leads "film chat" at 6:30 p.m. before the 7 p.m. screening Thursday at the Nasher Sculpture Center, 2001 Flora St. Visit nasherculpturecenter.org.
