Whenever my mom proposed a "staycation," it meant a major trip to the video store and ordering pizza and Chinese for the next two days. The Gaylord has taken a slightly different approach, and after booking a night you can log some time at the spa, water ski, learn to cook, or just eat and drink a distinguished amount of fancy vittles. There'll be musicians, a Lionel train exhibit, a murder mystery dinner theater and the final Grapevine fireworks display of the season as the Gaylord Texans Summerfest winds down. The Gaylord is located at 1501 Gaylord Trail in Grapevine. Call 817-778-2000 for reservations.
Fridays, 9 p.m. Starts: May 22. Continues through Sept. 6, 2009
