Acting Blue

Sinatra--like Texas--is a state of mind. Yes, there's Frank Sinatra, that Italian guy from Yonkers who made it big in the '40s and spent the rest of the century riding high and low waves of his career to become a renowned singer, movie star and, finally, an American institution. Sinatra the man had lots of wives, a fair amount of drinks, and mood swings and depression that dogged him all his life...along with a certain style that made any room his own and made a suit look cool. But Sinatra the mystique went beyond that, transcending human frailty and weakness to get at what made the man worth remembering—his music. In My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra, four singers cover all of the maestro's tunes, singing standards he made famous in the style Frank himself would sing them. Everything from "Fly Me to the Moon," to "The Lady Is a Tramp" to "My Way" is covered in time-honored Rat Packer style. The show's at Cox Building Playhouse, 1517 H Ave. in Plano. Tickets are $15 to $18. Call 972-849-0358 or visit roverdramawerks.com for information.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 19, 2 p.m. Starts: Sept. 10. Continues through Oct. 3, 2009
