Boy Vs Wild

Being a kid isn't as easy as it looks. Sure, they still get to wear onesies, play with high-tech toys on Christmas morning and have the luxury of naptime, but hey, being a little one isn't all it's cracked up to be. For example, look at Mowgli from Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. He was abandoned in the jungle as a baby, and his adoptive parents are a pack of wolves. He has a snake trying to hypnotize him every chance he gets so he can swallow Mowgli whole, a man-eating tiger that wants him for a main course, and a gang of orangutans trying to kidnap him. Doesn't sound like a trip to the playground to me. On the bright side, the little boy does get to dance around, sing songs and learn about the jungle law with Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther, his besties for life. The Jungle Book will run Friday through October 11 at Casa Manana Theatre (3103 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth). For more information, call 817-332-2272 or visit casamanana.org.
Fridays, 7 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 & 5 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Sept. 25. Continues through Oct. 11, 2009
