Folds Gives Best Imitation Of Himself

The incredible and talented Mr. Ben Folds has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. When someone first put "Brick" on a mixtape for me, I suddenly understood what love was and how much that stuff was gonna bring me down someday. When I first heard "Rockin' the Suburbs," I was totally psyched that someone was finally addressing us hip, cool suburban folks in a pop song. And then, years later, my sister's wedding included a musical interlude of her new brother- and sister-in-law singing "The Luckiest," and I felt like Ben Folds was suddenly not only a part of my familial history, but a part of my actual family. (He has yet to show up to a single Thanksgiving dinner, but still.) So, when I heard he was gonna play the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St., with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m. Wednesday, I was like, man, Uncle Ben's done it again. I highly recommend you attend this sure-to-be magical show, which is one night only, automatically classifying it as a very big deal. Tickets are $35 to $160 and can be purchased by calling 469-718-0151 or online at dallassymphony.com.
Wed., Sept. 30, 8 p.m., 2009
