Kickin' Cotton

Honestly, I haven't been to a soccer game since I played on a YMCA team in elementary school. I've always had more of a futbol americano mindset, myself--if kickers are the proverbial punchlines of the NFL, then what am I supposed to think of an entire team of them? That being said, I realize I'm in the global minority on this one, so I'm trying to get excited about the upcoming futbol double-header hitting the Cotton Bowl and the State Fair of Texas this Saturday. After all, anything that's not happening at Jerryworld is a win for Big D and our classically beautiful, underused stadium, and the back-to-back spectacle of FC Dallas versus NE Revolution and Mexico versus Colombia is sure to put butts in the seats. That's right, I said Mexico versus Colombia. In the Cotton Bowl. The only thing that could make this better would have been if the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District had scheduled their Fair Day for Wednesday. Too bad they didn't, because those kids are gonna miss a cultural spectacle for the ages. So pack up the face paint, grab the air horn and head to Fair Park for what's sure to be one of the State Fair's best and biggest days. The FC Dallas game kicks off at 6 p.m., followed immediately by the Mexico/Colombia game. Tickets are $25 to $150 and include Fair admission. Visit ticketmaster.com.
