Queen of Kiddie Green

With the rising trend of community gardens and locavore food movements, DyAnne DiSalvo was really onto something when she wrote children's book City Green. In it, a little girl turns the destruction of a home on her street into the salvation of her community by inspiring everyone to volunteer time and energy into a neighborhood garden. The story, inspiring more than kiddos, was brought to life by the La Terra Studio for its contribution to the Storybook Playhouses exhibit inside Dallas Arboretum (it will stand through December 31), but this Saturday and Sunday, folks can also find DiSalvo herself in the Arboretum, signing her book, meeting young fans and even drawing a sketch or two. Visit her in the Hoffman Family Gift Shop (where City Green is available for purchase) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Call 214-515-6500 or visit dallasarboretum.org.
Sat., Sept. 26, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 27, 1-4 p.m., 2009
