Daring Disc Doggies

I've never had a dog that was into catching Frisbees. I've trained dogs to sit, shake, shake with the other paw, lie down, roll over, play dead and even jump through a hula hoop. But never the Frisbee. And I'm gonna go out on a limb here and make an educated guess that the problem lies with the dog, not with me. Skilled Frisbee-catching, with all the jumps and tricks and everything, is a bona fide sport. And just as not every human can be Michael Jordan, not every dog can be a Frisbee champ. But some dogs can, which is why you should Frisbee your way on over to Samuell Grand Recreation Center, 6200 E. Grand Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, to watch the State Dog Frisbee Championship, hosted by the city of Dallas Park and Recreation Department. Bring chairs, buy concessions and feast your eyes as canines delight and amaze with their mad Frisbee skills. And, if you're in the mood for a bargain, check out the Samuell Grand parking lot, where a sale will be going on from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information about these events, call 214-670-1383.
Sat., Oct. 24, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 2009
