Ever since Barack Obama took office, have you noticed a springier spring in your step? A little extra oooo in your ooomph? Well, you have David Plouffe to thank for it. Because the press release announcing the former Obama campaign manager's appearance in Dallas wants you to understand, in no uncertain terms, that David Plouffe took democracy to 11. I mean sure, he may have "changed the face of politics forever," (Ha! So did Genghis Khan), but Plouffe also "re-energized the idea of democracy itself." HOLD. THE. PHONE. I know, you were thinking, "Wait, didn't Plato or one of those Greek dudes do the democracy first?" Sure. Half-assedly. At best. David Plouffe re-energized that shit. David Plouffe is the Red Bull that gave America wings! Plouffe's new book--the one he's in town promoting--is called The Audacity to Win. Which was changed from the original title, The Audacity to Ride Some Metaphorical Coattails With Cute Plays on the Titles of Existing Texts Written by Dudes I Used to Work For. Of course, Plouffe did do some pretty awesome campaigning, and anyone with even a passing interest in politics would probably learn an awful lot from Plouffe when he speaks at 6 p.m. this Monday at the Angelika Film Center, 3321 E. Mockingbird Lane. Tickets are $20. Call 214-855-7151.
