Perched in the branches of an ancient Hemlock tree, I lived my childhood creating my own games and solving my own questions within the forest world around me. Though the tree has since been chopped down and reduced to firewood, I owe those moments for saving me from becoming a paranoid nature-phobe with an outstanding World of Warcraft ranking and a love of reality television. Richard Louv, an award winning writer and environmental expert, has his theory about the cultural, psychostimulant epidemic taking over today's Wii Generation: Nature-Deficit Disorder. His book Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder explores the co-dependent relationship of children to nature. Share Louv's passion for restoring the connection of children with the natural world 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dallas Arboretum. Admission with reservation is only $12 for non-members. For more information, call 214-515-6540 or visit dallasarboretum.org.
