Ma'am, I'm sure your son has worked very hard to be the most-feared power hitter in Highland Park. Sir, your son's curveball is the toast of Plano Senior High, and I won't begrudge you that. But please recognize that this week, when players from the Puerto Rico Baseball High School and Academy--a nonprofit where players get their diploma before hitting the Major League draft--come barnstorming through town, there's no way I'm rooting for the home team of high schoolers from Dallas, Plano and Arlington. If you'd rather take matters into your own hands, join in the charity home-run derby, $100 to enter for a $500 prize, hosted by the Mets' Gary Sheffield. Games are Thursday through Sunday at Dallas' Higgins Field, 3606 S. Westmoreland Road, and start times vary, so visit dallasbaseball.net/texas_vs_puerto_rico.php for details.
