Goonies Never Say Die!

Move over Jack Sparrow and Captain Yellowbeard, another pirate has our heart--One-Eyed Willie. Please refrain from making the obvious sex joke about his name; after all, he is a character in a children's movie. Growing up I never actually stumbled across a Spanish treasure map and set out to follow it, but a little part of me feels like I did. Every time I watched the film The Goonies I felt like I was a part of their mismatched group of amateur treasure hunters. They made me feel like I was best buds with the gadget geek Data and doing the "truffle shuffle" with Chunk. If you are an unfortunate one who hasn't watched this film, then let me fill you in. The 1985 classic is about a group of teenagers who come across a treasure map and decide to follow it in hopes of saving their parents' home from foreclosure. Along the way they encounter a greedy Italian family and deadly booby traps set up by Captain One-Eyed Willie, who doesn't want anyone touching his gold. The Goonies will be returning to the big screen midnight Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre (5458 W. Lovers Lane). For more information, call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
