The Nutcracker, although obviously a holiday classic, is always so deadly serious. You don't see the Jones family chit-chatting in their seats during the ballet performance. No one laughs at Clara or her eccentric godfather. And no one dares to make a comment about the costumes until intermission. But what if all that changed? What if you could roll on the floor during this sophisticated holiday production? Well, hold on to your britches because Beulaville Baptist Book Club is about to present its very own comical version of The Nutcracker. In the play, the book club's traditional version of Tchaikovsky's classic is ruined when the pina colada casserole gets the entire cast sick. There's no need to worry, though. The Velvet Kittens Burlesque Dancers step in to save the day when their bus breaks down on the way to New Orleans. This ain't no ordinary nutcracker, folks! You'll laugh for hours on end. A Bur-less-Q Nutcracker is directed by Alejandro de la Costa and choreographed by Jana Edele and Mark-Brian Sonna. It takes place through December 27 at the Stone Cottage Theatre, 15650 Addison Road. This show is rated R for language and risque dancing. Tickets are $18 to $22. For showtimes and more information call 214-447-4942.
