Light Up the Season

OK, OK, so you've got your motorized snowman out front, and Rudolph's set to take off from the roof. Or perhaps you have a yard-sized menorah nestled in between your two oak trees. Dial it all back a little and let Dallas Heritage Village show you how to celebrate a little differently this weekend. From 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the DHV will show us how folks celebrated holidays back in the day with the annual tradition Candlelight at Dallas Heritage Village. We're talking a Tejano Catholic Christmas from 1900, a turn-of-the-century Hanukkah celebration, peeks at how Dallas pioneers celebrated the holiday (some belly up to a root beer bar, apparently) and an African-American exhibition. Plus, dancers, costumed performers and musicians will entertain throughout the village, and a 19th-century St. Nick just might stop by for a visit. Admission to Candlelight at Dallas Heritage Village, Old City Park at 1515 S. Harwood, is just $6 to $8. Visit dallasheritagevillage.org.
Dec. 12-13, 3-9 p.m., 2009
