March of the Merry

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right...through downtown Dallas? Dallas is pretty far from the North Pole, but on Saturday the streets of downtown Dallas will resemble it a bit more closely. The Capital One Bank Adolphus Children's Parade Benefiting Children's Medical Center (try working that line into a Christmas carol!) makes Santa Claus Lane local, with marching bands, giant balloons, costumed characters and floats. Since its first bell jingled more than 20 years ago, the parade has grown to an estimated 350,000 spectators and is broadcast on at least 350 television stations. This year's featured performer is Selena Gomez, known for her role as Alex Russo on Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place. And while we might not have a Santa Claus Lane for a parade route, our parade does have Remington the Clydesdale, who at 80 inches is the Guinness Book of World Records' tallest horse in the world. The Capital One Bank Adolphus Children's Parade Benefiting Children's Medical Center is at 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Dallas. Organizers suggest a 7 a.m. arrival time. The event is free, but tickets for bleacher seating are available for $20. (Hint: Act now because those are going fast.) Call 214-456-8383 or visit childrens.com/parade.
