The Great States

I think States of Exception--a collaborative exhibit between a Rotterdam design firm, an Amsterdam think tank and Denton artist Angel Cabrales depicting a prison cell, slaughterhouses, HAZMAT suits and torture sessions--is supposed to be some kind of political commentary. But with its bunk beds, outhouse and picnic tables, it makes prison look eerily like the summer camp I attended as a kid, except with costumes. Patrick Murphy's Doors (Sonic Memories) is 10 connected wooden music boxes that visitors control by opening and closing. Both exhibits are displayed through January 29 at Centraltrak, 800 Exposition Ave. Visit centraltrak.org for more information.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 14. Continues through Jan. 29, 2009
