Paints, Rearranged

It's hard to look at painter Benjamin Brantley Purvis' work without recalling the 1994 Meat Puppets hit "Backwater"--"In the backwater swirling/there is something that'll never change." In his exhibit of the same name, Purvis employs Pollock-esque swirls of color and applications of turpenoid, which thins the oils and gives his paintings their ghostly, psychedelic haze. Check out Backwater through March 3 in Bar Belmont at the Belmont Hotel, 901 Fort Worth Ave. Bar Belmont is open from 3 to 11 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays and 3 p.m. to 12 a.m. Thursdays through Saturdays. Call 214-393-2300.
Mondays-Wednesdays, Sundays, 3-11 p.m.; Thursdays-Saturdays, 3 p.m.-midnight. Starts: Feb. 2. Continues through March 3, 2010
