Let's Have A Talk

Once upon a time, a bunch of writers got together to hold a luncheon roast for famed critic Alexander Woollcott. They had such a good time that the group--composed of Dorothy Parker, Robert Sherwood, Robert Benchley, George Kaufman, Edna Ferber and Marc Connelly--kept meeting for lunch for the next 10 years. They traded acerbic barbs, critiqued and crucified one another if the writing was bad, but were glad and willing to share their praise if it met their high standards. Kaufman was once asked by a press agent what it would take to get his leading lady in Kaufman's newspaper. "Shoot her," Kaufman said without batting an eye. Good stuff. The musical comedy version of the group's antics, entitled Talk of the Town, plays Thursday through Sunday at the Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson. Tickets are $36 to $39. For tickets and showtimes, call 972-744-4650 or visit eisemanncenter.com.
Thu., March 11, 8 p.m.; Fri., March 12, 8 p.m.; Sat., March 13, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sun., March 14, 2 & 7 p.m., 2010
