The Gloria's Agenda

Lucky for us, just because SMU will be host to the George W. Bush Presidential Library doesn't mean the entire university has to join up with the Bush brand of conservative, head-in-the-sand politics. Glory, glory: Several SMU departments have partnered with the Veteran Feminists of America (that's a group for second-wave ladies, not ladies who used to be feminists) to host a four-day symposium on women's issues on both a local and global scale. In addition to several days of panels on women in academia, corporate leadership and political issues, Gloria Steinem Her Damn Self will speak at the "Gender Agenda" on March 19, a daylong event addressing global women's rights and the increasing violence against women and girls at home and abroad. The "Gender Agenda" lasts from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Women's Museum in Fair Park and features lunch, the Steinem-addressed dinner and a healthy dose of raising your consciousness. Tickets are $110. Fri., March 19, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., 2010
