There's a new exhibition on display now at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther Drive, and it goes by the name of Sweet Acrobatics: An Artistic Study of Motion. For you old-timers out there, let me explain: the "sweet" in the exhibition's title does not refer to anything sugary, nor does it imply that the artwork contained within is somehow kind-hearted. Yes, the "sweet" of Dude, Where's My Car? fame is a valid entry in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary (meaning skillful and/or proficient), as well as an aptly chosen title for an artistic study of motion and dynamics. In fact, I'm pretty sure "sweet acrobatics" is not only the name of this exhibition, but also the title of 4,309 videos on YouTube involving skateboards and 13-year-old kids. But, dude, don't waste half a day watching skater tricks on your MacBook. Instead, check out the exhibit, which features the work of 12 Dallas artists and is curated by Enrique Fernandez Cervantes, visual arts coordinator and curator at the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. (Now that's what I call a title.) The exhibition is free and on display through April 17. For viewing hours and more information, call 214-670-8749, or visit bathhousecultural.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: March 16. Continues through April 17, 2010
