Sea, Sail, Snap, Shutter

Sure as no photographer can forget his first camera, no sailor ever drifts far from the memory of his first dinghy. Years after he sailed competitively, and long after he first began taking pictures, Bob Chilton has produced an exhibition that combines his two longtime passions: a richly colored set of maritime scenes and subdued black-and-white shots recalling life on the waterfront. Chilton's work, like "Door to Nowhere, Greek Islands" or the wistful, timely "Dinghy from Yesteryear, 2009," encompasses broad vistas and detail shots from the Mediterranean coast to Maine and Massachusetts. The show hangs through May 1 at Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery, 1202 Dragon St., and Chilton will be on hand Saturday to open the show with an artist's reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the gallery. Call 214-969-1852 or check pdnbgallery.com for more info.
Sat., April 17, 6-8 p.m.; Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: April 17. Continues through May 1, 2010
