Rolling Through One Swanky Joint

Nowadays, stoner humor is as pervasive to mainstream culture as Disney Channel actors who start music careers and a series of forgettable ABC Family made-for-TV movies. From films such as Pineapple Express and Half Baked to comedians Katt Williams and Doug Benson, smoking pot has become popularized to a point that the likes of Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg have become the modern-day poster children for smoking the reefer. However, had it not been for Cheech (Marin) and (Tommy) Chong, popular culture might be lacking in the weed humor department. In fact, I can't imagine anyone could hear the names of Cheech and Chong and not automatically think about smoking pot. This comic duo, the team that brought us Up In Smoke as well as a host of similar films, are perhaps the very people that started the stoner entertainment revolution. For the past 30 years, even through a contentious break-up and long overdue make-up, the pair is still at it this year on their Get It Legal Tour, which will be stopping at Bass Performance Hall, 525 Commerce St. in Fort Worth, on Friday. Given their history, I'm sure you can guess what exactly their cryptic tour title is referencing. The one-night-only show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets ($39.50 to $49.50) and more information can be found at basshall.com.
Fri., April 30, 8 p.m., 2010
