The Winter Olympics seem to rule our lives for two weeks every four years, and no matter how hard we try to stick to the "cool" events like luge and snowboarding, it always seems that we eventually get sucked into the soap-opera-on-ice that is figure skating. Surely there's plenty of drama in the lives of say, curlers, but nobody in the U.S. seems to give a crap about that. However, put 'em in a glittery costume and we're all ears. This year it was Canadian Joannie Rochette who won our hearts, capturing the bronze despite the death of her mother two days before the competition. We don't care if it's just ice skating--that was some inspirational shit. Apparently some dude named Evan Lysacek won the men's gold, also. He'll take a break from Dancing With the Stars to headline the latest incarnation of Smucker's Stars on Ice, skating into the American Airlines Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Other skaters include 2006 silver medalist Sasha Cohen and former men's World Champion Todd Eldredge, but sadly, no Joannie Rochette. Tickets are $25 to $140.
