Got a hard-on for Bic? Saturday, The Crow Collection of Asian Art presents the first Dallas museum exhibit for critically acclaimed Il Lee, a Korean-born New York artist who's turned doodling with ballpoint pens into something more than a pair of awesomely personalized Chucks. According to The Crow Collection website, Lee's pieces are "concrete exercises in how a medium depicts light, line, and form, his works also capture the ineffable." Translation: they're sweet-lookin'. Lee's ballpointery has been the subject of a retrospective at the San Jose Museum of Art and he's been featured at the Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian Museum of Art and the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea. Lee earned his B.F.A. in painting from Hong-Ik University in Seoul, his M.F.A. in painting from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and most recently, his B.A.P. (Bad Ass in Penmanship) from My Eyeballs. Starting Saturday, visit The Crow Collection of Asian Art and ponder New Vision: Ballpoint Drawings by Il Lee. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Fridays through Sundays. Admission is free. Call 214-979-6430 or visit crowcollection.org.
