You know, these days it seems as though the term "starving artist" is more relevant than ever before. Well, with the economy the way it is right now, it seems as though it's becoming harder and harder to get where you want to be. Have no fear, my gifted, creative but unemployed friends. It's time to seize your opportunity to embrace the arts once again with Kitchen Dog's 2010 New Works Festival. This month-long celebration showcases a collection of readings written by innovative regional playwrights selected from all across the globe and features actors and directors from the DFW area. Among the pieces being performed are Ponzi, a story about sex, money and power; and Lidless, a drama about a former Guantanamo detainee seeking revenge on his female interrogator. Ponzi was written by Elaine Romero and is the winner of the 2009 NNPN Commission Grant. Lidless was written by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig. Let the creativity commence, people. Both performances take place Saturday at The Mac, 3120 McKinney Ave. Tickets for the readings are pay-what-you-can. For more information call 214-953-1055 or visit kitchendogtheater.org.
